Pet End-of-Life Care

Choosing to say goodbye to a beloved companion is the hardest decision a pet owner ever has to make. There is no right or wrong answer, only what is right for your pet and your family. Our role is not to make the decision for you, but to be your guide. We'll help you assess your pet's quality of life with objective and empathetic support, ensuring you can feel confident and at peace with your choice, whatever it may be. When the time comes, we promise to provide a calm, private, and compassionate environment for you and your pet. We understand the depth of your bond and will honor it with the utmost respect.

Your end-of-life care options

Private Cremation: Your pet is cremated individually, and their ashes are returned to you in a beautiful urn or container of your choosing. This allows you to keep them close.

Communal Cremation: Your pet is cremated with other pets, and their ashes are respectfully scattered in a communal memorial garden. This is an economical choice.

Home Burial: We can provide guidance on home burial regulations and considerations for families who wish to keep their pet close in a familiar place.

Paw Prints & Keepsakes: We offer paw print impressions and other memorial keepsakes so you can have a tangible memory of your beloved friend.

Common Questions

  • No Rush: We allow ample time for you to be with your pet, say your goodbyes, and ask any final questions.
  • Comfort First: Your pet will be placed on a soft blanket
  • Gentle Sedation: We will first give your pet a mild sedative to help them relax and fall into a peaceful sleep, free from anxiety or pain.
  • Peaceful Passing: The final injection is quick and painless, administered while your pet is already asleep.
  • Aftercare & Honoring Their Memory: We will discuss aftercare options (cremation) and provide you with resources for grieving the loss of a pet.

This is the most difficult question. We often recommend using a 'Quality of Life' scale. It asks you to consider several factors: Is your pet eating and drinking? Are they able to move without pain? Do they still have more good days than bad days? When the bad days consistently outnumber the good, it may be time to let them go with dignity.

No, you do not have to be present. Whether you stay or leave is a deeply personal choice, shaped by your relationship with your pet and your feelings about the process. This is a judgement-free safe space, and our primary goal is to ensure a peaceful and compassionate passing for your faithful friend.

Absolutely. We believe it's important for children to be part of the process if they feel comfortable. We can help prepare them for what to expect in an age-appropriate way. It can be a powerful and loving experience for them.

Graber's Animal Hospital does not offer at-home euthanasia. We recommend contacting local mobile veterinary providers who specialize in peaceful, in-home transitions. We can provide you with their contact information.
