Happy doodle dog wearing recovery cone after surgery — surgical care at Graber's Animal Hospital Toledo OH

Dog & Cat Surgery

Entrusting your pet to us for surgery is a significant act of faith. At Graber's Animal Hospital, we don't take that responsibility lightly. We've implemented a multi-layered safety protocol that exceeds industry standards to ensure your pet's well-being before, during, and after their procedure. • Pre-Anesthetic Bloodwork: We require comprehensive bloodwork to assess organ function and ensure your pet can safely process anesthesia. •Individualized Anesthesia Plans: There is no 'one-size-fits-all.' We tailor the type and amount of anesthesia to your pet's specific breed, age, and health status. •Advanced Patient Monitoring: A dedicated, trained veterinary technician is by your pet's side from start to finish, monitoring vital signs (ECG, blood pressure, oxygen levels, temperature) with state-of-the-art equipment. •Supportive Care: We provide IV fluids to maintain blood pressure and support organ function, and a dedicated, warm recovery area. As your primary care veterinarians, our first priority is your pet's well-being. We are equipped to handle the vast majority of surgical needs right here in our hospital. However, we believe in providing the best possible care, which sometimes means referring to a board-certified specialist. For complex orthopedic procedures (like ACL repairs) or highly specialized surgeries, we have a trusted partnership with board-certified veterinary surgeons. We will never hesitate to refer you if we believe it is in your pet's best interest. Our commitment is to your pet's health. We want you to feel informed and prepared. Here is a typical process for a surgical day: •Morning Drop-off (~7:30AM): You'll drop off your pet. We'll confirm the procedure, answer any last-minute questions, and have you sign consent forms. •Preparation & Procedure: Our team performs the surgery while your pet is under anesthesia. We will call you with an update as soon as they are in recovery. •Recovery & Pick-up (3:00 – 5:30 PM): We will contact you to schedule a pick-up time once your pet is fully awake. We'll go over all post-operative instructions, pain medications, and answer any questions you have.
