Dog resting with purple leg cast — wellness exam and veterinary care at Graber's Animal Hospital Toledo OH

Dog & Cat Wellness Exams

A lot can happen in a year. For your pet, that year is closer to five or six in human terms, which means the puppy or kitten you brought in last spring is meaningfully older today. Annual wellness exams exist because of that gap. They're how we catch things early, before they become expensive, painful, or harder to treat. At Graber's, a wellness exam isn't a quick weigh-in and a few shots. Dr. Graber and our team spend real time with your pet, checking everything from their heart and lung sounds to their teeth, skin, joints, and weight. We're looking for the kind of subtle changes that don't show up as obvious symptoms yet but tell us a lot about where your pet's health is heading. Because we've been caring for Toledo families for over 70 years and many of our clients have been with us for decades, we often know your pet's history better than a chart does. That continuity matters more than most people realize. We're also a second-generation, independently owned practice, which means we don't operate on corporate quotas or rush through appointments. If you have questions, and most people do, we make time for them. Dr. Dale Graber built this practice on that philosophy and it hasn't changed.

Every Life Stage, Every Visit

Puppy & Kitten: The first few visits set the foundation. We work through the initial vaccine series, talk through nutrition and parasite prevention, and answer every question you have about getting your new pet started on the right foot. There are no stupid questions at this stage. We've heard them all and we're happy to help.

Adult Pet: For healthy adult pets, our focus is maintaining what's working and catching what isn't. A complete physical, any recommended diagnostics like heartworm testing or baseline bloodwork, and an honest conversation about weight, dental health, and what's coming up in the next year.

Senior Pet: We recommend twice-yearly exams for senior pets, generally dogs and cats over seven, because a lot can shift in six months at that stage. We pay closer attention to organ function, joint health, and any signs of the conditions that tend to creep in with age. Catching kidney disease or a heart murmur early gives us options. Catching it late limits them.

Still Unsure of your Pet's Condition?

If something doesn't feel right, its always better to ask. Our team is here to listen, assess your pets symptoms and guide you on the next best steps. Whether its a sudden change in behavior or a visible injury, we’ll help you decide the appropriate level of care
